Texas is our single busiest destination, and it is also the one state where the answer genuinely changes depending on which end of it you live in. El Paso is a day in the car. Houston is most of a country away.
The honest answer
Is Texas a flight, or could you drive?
El Paso families sometimes drive. It is roughly eleven hours on I-8 and I-10, one long day with the air conditioning running, and some people would rather do that than hand their kitten to anyone. Everybody east of the Pecos flies.
From San Diego the nonstop into Dallas or Houston is about two and a half to three hours. That is short enough that a kitten leaves Jamul in the morning and is asleep on your sofa by the evening, which is the whole argument for flying rather than driving.

What Catches Texas Families Out
The heat, and not the way people expect. It is not the Texas summer that causes problems, it is the tarmac at both ends. Airlines restrict live animal travel when it is too hot on the ramp, so from June to September we book the first flight of the morning and nothing else.
The second is assuming Dallas. If you are in the Valley or in West Texas, Dallas can add four hours of driving to a trip that San Antonio or El Paso would have finished. Tell us your town rather than your nearest big city.
And Texas is wide enough that two families the same distance from us on a map can have completely different days. Give us the town and let us do the arithmetic.
Settling in
The First Few Days at Home
Your kitten will have had an early start. Offer water as soon as you are in the car and food once you are home, not in the terminal, and keep the first evening quiet.
One room to begin with, with the litter box away from the food, is better than the run of the house. Maine Coons are confident cats but they are still nine weeks old, and the confidence shows up about four days in.

Every kitten goes home spayed or neutered, microchipped, vaccinated and wormed, with a health certificate, a carrier and a one year genetic health warranty. Read the contract. A $350 deposit holds a kitten against the $650 price, and travel is quoted separately.
