What Past Litters Show You

Photographs of grown kittens tell you more about a cattery than photographs of newborns. A Maine Coon changes enormously between eight weeks and three years: the ear tufts come in, the ruff fills out around the chest, the tail grows to its full plume, and the body keeps lengthening long after most cats have finished. The cats in this gallery are the same kittens families collected from us, at every stage of that journey.

Look for the things that carry through a line rather than the pose in any one picture: the heavy boning, the square muzzle, the wide-set ears, and the calm, unbothered expression of a cat that grew up around people. Colour and pattern vary from litter to litter, from brown tabby and silver to solid white and odd eyes, but temperament is the trait we breed for first and the one families write to us about afterwards.

For the cats behind these kittens, see our males and females, the youngsters coming up in our program, and the retired cats who have finished breeding and now live as pets.
