Jamul, California To Indiana
Indiana is a straight flight from San Diego and a surprisingly simple trip, once you have sorted out which clock you are on. That last part catches more families than the weather does.
The honest answer
The drive is about thirty hours across the desert and the plains. Nobody is doing that with a kitten, and we would not agree to it. Indianapolis takes a nonstop from San Diego in a little under four hours.
Indianapolis covers most of the state comfortably. The northwest corner leans towards Chicago and the Ohio River counties sometimes find Louisville or Cincinnati shorter. None of those is wrong, they are just a different drive once your kitten is in the car.
| If you live in | Drive from the airport |
|---|---|
| Indianapolis | you are already there |
| Bloomington | about 1 hour from IND |
| Lafayette | about 1 hour 15 from IND |
| Fort Wayne | about 2 hours from IND |
| South Bend | about 2 hours 30, or 1 hour 30 from Chicago |
| Evansville | about 3 hours, or 2 hours from Louisville |

$650Worth knowing
The time zone, more than anything. Most of Indiana runs on Eastern time, but the corner near Gary and the corner near Evansville are on Central. An hour read wrong at the booking stage is an hour standing in the wrong terminal, so we confirm the arrival in your own local time in writing.
Then the winter dark. Sunset before five and ice on I-65 makes a late landing a poor idea, so from December we aim to be on the ground in daylight and will move a date to get it.
In summer the problem is at our end rather than yours. San Diego is mild, but connecting through Phoenix or Dallas in July brings the heat embargoes into play, so we book early departures.
Settling in
A four hour flight is a long morning for a kitten. Expect them to sleep most of the first evening and do not take it as a bad sign.
Keep them on the food they arrived on for a week or two. Between the travel, new water and a new house there is enough changing without the diet joining in.
Indiana families reach us from Indianapolis, Fort Wayne, Evansville, South Bend, Carmel, Fishers, Bloomington, Lafayette and Muncie.
Prepared for Home
Every kitten goes home spayed or neutered, microchipped, vaccinated and wormed, with a health certificate, a carrier and a one year genetic health warranty. Read the contract. A $350 deposit holds a kitten against the $650 price, and travel is quoted separately.
