The Breed

Maine Coon Cats

Maine Coons are known for their impressive size, gentle personality, and close connection with the people they love. They are one of the largest domestic cat breeds, but their character is just as memorable as their appearance.

A Cat With Presence

What Makes a Maine Coon Different?

Maine Coons are known for their sheer size, weatherproof coats, large tails, and huge tufted paws. These features trace back to their origin in Maine and the breed’s adaptation to cold winters.

They mature slowly compared with many cats. Our adult males generally reach 18 to 25 pounds, while females are often 8 to 12 pounds. They continue filling out in frame, muscle, and coat for three to five years.

Temperament

Affectionate, Intelligent, and Playful

Their temperament is one of the most distinctive things about them. These gentle giants often follow their people through the house, greet them at the door, play fetch, and bond deeply with the whole family instead of choosing one favorite person.

Maine Coons are social without being needy. They enjoy attention and affection, but they also appreciate having their own space. They remain playful well into adulthood, happily chasing toys, learning games, and even walking on a leash.

They are highly intelligent and curious, which means they enjoy being involved in everyday life. A Maine Coon is rarely far from the activity, whether they are watching, playing, or finding something new to investigate.

Instead of loud meowing, many Maine Coons communicate with soft chirps and trills. Families often say it feels like having a conversation with them.

Our Program

European Maine Coon Lines

European Maine Coon lines are at the heart of our program because they create the bold, wild appearance that so many families love. Compared with the softer faces often associated with traditional American lines, European cats are known for a stronger square muzzle, pronounced chin, tall ears, dramatic lynx tips, and heavy bone structure.

They often carry more size and a fuller, more rugged coat. The result is the big, majestic appearance many people picture when they hear the words Maine Coon.

Size and Growth

How Big Do Maine Coons Get?

Males

Our males generally reach 18 to 25 pounds.

Females

Usually 8 to 12 pounds, with some larger females reaching 14 pounds.

Length and Height

They can reach up to 40 inches from nose to tail tip and stand around 10 to 16 inches at the shoulder.

A healthy Maine Coon should be large because of frame and muscle, not extra weight. Genetics set the potential, while good nutrition and plenty of play help each kitten reach it. We promise a large, impressive cat, never an exact adult weight.

Family Life

Are Maine Coons Good With Families and Other Pets?

Maine Coons are wonderfully patient and easygoing, which can make them a good match for homes with children, dogs, and other cats. Their calm nature and playful personality let them enjoy a busy home without needing to be the center of attention all day.

They do best with daily company and interaction. A Maine Coon left alone for long hours will miss their family and may find mischief to fill the time.

Before You Bring One Home

What Families Should Know Before Choosing a Maine Coon

Grooming

Their beautiful coat needs brushing two or three times each week, with more care during spring and fall shedding. Regular grooming helps prevent mats behind the ears, under the arms, and on the belly.

Space and Supplies

A Maine Coon needs an extra large litter box, a strong cat tree, and a carrier large enough for a growing cat. Their everyday equipment needs to match their size.

Daily Company

This is a people oriented breed that benefits from interaction, play, and companionship. If your home is empty for long hours, another suitable pet may be worth considering.

Long Term Commitment

Maine Coons stay playful and mischievous for years. With good care, they commonly live 12 to 15 years, so choosing one is a meaningful long term commitment.

Responsible Breeding

Health Questions to Ask Any Breeder

A responsible breeder should welcome clear questions and be willing to share documentation. Before choosing a kitten, ask:

  1. Have both parents had a recent HCM heart scan by a veterinary cardiologist?
  2. What DNA tests have the parents received, including HCM, SMA, and PK deficiency?
  3. Have the parents had hip evaluations where possible?
  4. Have the parents tested negative for FeLV and FIV?
  5. What veterinary care, age appropriate vaccinations, and deworming has the kitten received before leaving?
  6. What does the health guarantee cover, and for how long?
  7. Have related cats developed heart or hip concerns?

Ask to see the actual documentation. A good breeder answers openly and gives families the information they need to make a confident decision.

A True Companion

Why Maine Coons Make Such Good Family Companions

In our experience, it comes down to their rare mix of patience and playfulness. They are calm and tolerant enough for a busy family home, yet playful enough to join in rather than hide under a bed. They bond with the whole household, so everyone gets a share of the affection.

Their intelligence, soft chirping conversations, and habit of following their people from room to room give them a personality that feels less like a pet and more like a family member.
